    Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become one of the most frequently used terms in the technical jargon (and often in not-so-technical jargon). Recent advancements in the field of AI have certainly contributed to the AI hype, and so have numerous applications and results of using AI technology in practice. Still, just like with any other hype, the AI hype has its controversies. This paper critically examines developments in the field of AI from multiple perspectives – research, technological, social and pragmatic. Part of the controversies of the AI hype stem from the fact that people use the term AI differently, often without a deep understanding of the wider context in which AI as a field has been developing since its inception in Mid 1950s

    Technology-Enhanced Assessment at universities and in schools: An initiative.

    Background: Technology-enhanced assessment (TEA) is a broad term that encompasses the diverse methods, by which technology can be used to support the management and delivery of assessment in educational institutions, in workplace and lifelong learning, in professional training and development, and so on. Purpose of Study: There is a new initiative at the University of Belgrade, Serbia, to explore computing technology underpinnings of the practice of TEA (computing underpinnings of the practice [CUP] of TEA), at universities and in schools in the country. Sources of Evidence: The CUP of TEA initiative starts from the current insight into current practices of assessment processes in different educational institutions. The data collected include assessment process descriptions from these institutions, specification of technologies used for the purpose, and specification of the educational profiles of participants in the process. Main Argument: The CUP of TEA initiative develops: A novel and comprehensive framework for TEA to lay the foundation for systematic, accurate, effective, and innovative application and use of TEA in educational institutions; specifically designated sets of information and communication technology (ICT) tools and services – ICT toolsets – that support practical application of TEA; several application cases that implement the TEA framework and use different ICT toolsets for TEA in different educational contexts, showcasing the integration of best TEA practices into curricula; and a set of policies that enable educational institutions and their teachers to officially establish the use of the framework for TEA in their courses and daily work. The CUP of TEA initiative covers both formative and summative assessment and supports formal, non-formal, and informal learning and assessment. Conclusions: The ultimate goal of the initiative is not just better, faster, and more informative assessment. It is the creation of a robust teaching and learning assessment approach that improves and advances the quality and efficiency of education

    U radu je opisan programski modul za obradu ulazno/izlaznih signala kod industrijskog robotskog kontrolera opšte namene. Koncept asinhronog praćenja promenljivih spoljnih signala i uslova uz istovremeno izvršavanje robotskog programa je iskorišćen kao metod komunikacije robotskog sistema s okolinom. Razmotrene su različite mogućnosti pristupa ulazno/izlaznim signalima iz korisničkih programa napisanih na robotskom programskom jeziku RL, koji je ugradjen u kontroler. Opisane su mogućnosti rekonfiguracije ulazno/izlaznog modula sistema u slučaju promene radnog okruženja ili vrste aplikacije. U diskusiji o trenutnim performansama realizovanog sistema sa stanovišta obrade ulazno/izlaznih signala, ukazano je na mogućnosti nadgradnje i proširenja sistema.The program module for input/output (I/O) signal processing in a general purpose industrial robot controller is described. The concept of asynchronous scanning of external signals and conditions simultaneously with the robot program execution is used as a method of robot system communication with the environment. Various alternatives of accessing I/O signals from user programs, written in the controller's built-in robot programming language are considered. The I/O module reconfiguration capabilities are described for the case of various application and/or environment changes. The system extension possibilities are discussed from the I/O signal processing viewpoint

    Towards Sharing Rules Between OWL/SWRL and UML/OCL

    The paper presents a metamodel-driven model transformation approach to interchanging rules between the Semantic Web Rule Language along with the Web Ontology Language (OWL/SWRL) and Object Constraint Language (OCL) along with UML (UML/OCL). The solution is based on the REWERSE Rule Markup Language (R2ML), a MOF-defined general rule language, as a pivotal metamodel and the bidirectional transformations between OWL/SWRL and R2ML and between UML/OCL and R2ML. Besides describing mapping rules between three rule languages, the paper proposes the implementation by using ATLAS Transformation language (ATL) and describes the whole transformation process involving several MOF-based metamodels, XML schemas, EBNF grammars

    Sharing OCL Constraints by Using Web Rules

    This paper presents an MDE-based approach to interchanging rules between the Object Constraint Language (OCL) and REWERSE I1 Rule Markup Language (R2ML). The R2ML tends to be a standard rule markup language by following up the W3C initiative for Rule Interchange Format (RIF). The main benefit of this approach is that the transformations between languages are completely based on the languages' abstract syntax (i.e., metamodels) and in this way we keep the focus on the language concepts rather than on technical issues caused by different concrete syntax. In the current implementation, we have supported translation of the OCL invariants into the R2ML integrity rules. While most of the OCL expression could be represented in the R2ML and other rule languages, we have also identified that collection operators could only be partially supported in other rule languages (e.g., SWRL)

    Towards Web-Based Education of Demography

    Abstract. This paper describes steps taken towards introducing Web-based educational technology in teaching demography at the university level. Traditionally, demography is taught by giving lectures to the students, who are then expected to study from textbooks and exercise in demographic calculus. Some students find this way of learning monotonous and exhausting, hence their motivation gradually drops. Modern learning technology can help prevent such a situation, at least to an extent. Of course, using any technology to support teaching and learning requires representing essential parts of the domain knowledge with that technology first. The paper presents initial results in building such a knowledge infrastructure for Web-based education (WBE) in the domain of demography.
